Hi guys!!!
I need a bit of help here:
PS: Linux RH 5.2, NT Workstation 4.0
I got 2 machines set up at home, one running Linux (P120, 40Mb) and an
NT (AMDK62, 64Mb). I have been tempted for a long time to set up a LAN at
home, so I went to Computer Goodwill (used parts, really cheap, no
warranty. oh well...) But anyhow, I bought 2 3Com 3c503 Etherlink II, I
believe 8 bit cards, for 5 bucks a piece. I think not too bad for starting
... Well, both computers seem to recognize the cards. I am running a cable
from one Ethernet card to the other (is that fine?) so they are basically
connected directly. Now, I have not been able to talk from one to the
other. I am using reserved IP addresses (172.16.0.1 for Linux, 172.16.0.2
for NT)... What do I need to do to make get along well??? My Linux is
called andromeda and the domain is .com, and my NT is called Orion, but I
wasnt succesful in setting its domain to .com b/c some message told me I
couldnt so I set up its workgroup to galaxy. Anyway, does any of you have
an answer of what else do I need to do??? I need as much detail as
possible so that i dont have to stay awake all night setting it up.
Also, I just installed a 2nd hard drive on my linux box, and linux has
been able to find the hard drive, but , i dont know how to format it or
anything. All i know is to use fdisk to create a partition and I
have. But, should I partition it as an extended (ext2) or as a primary
eventhough I already have a primary? what are the steps to follow so that I
can have my hard drive mounted on /opt2 at boot time? I know there are
files realted to file systems, such as /etc/mtab and /etc/fstab, but I
dont have a clue on how to make this thing work. the hard drive is
/dev/hdd. BTW, I also need to remove the cdrom that used to be installed
on my linux box.
If all this works, is it possible to use the cdrom on my NT machine from
linux using NFS? explain if possible ...
Can anybody help with these issues???
thanx in advance
