you'll need a lot more than libjpeg if you are compiling from
cvs snaps.  for the same day of the e snap you got get and
install the other snaps in the following order:

(not snaps) automake 1.4, autoconf 2.13, gettext 0.10.35,
( snaps )    glib, gtk+,  imlib, fnlib, stringlist, audiofile, esound, e

it's a pain in the ass to update these packages, especially since
gimp etc is built off gtk, just be sure not to wipe out your old
shared libraries gimp and friends are using and you'll be fine.
you can leave out audiofile and esound if you wish to
not use sound with e, you can always use mpg123 etc,
it's just that sound events etc will not be built into e.

i use and love e, i've "sold" linux to people based off it's look
and feel alone, usually it's Eterm's transparency effects and gimp
that wins them over though.
