I have not seen an announcement yet, so I think it's still a rumor
(although gaining in reliability). LinuxPPC already runs on low-end
RS/6000s; I have no idea about the big ones.
Hopefully if IBM starts working on PPC Linux some of the advantages will
trickle down to us Mac users...
