i think you guys are getting a little too excited over a number.
who cares what version it is? if you're worried about being
"behind" or that your versions of Blah_Prog are too old snap
out of it go to http://www.freshmeat.net and type Blah_Prog
into their search and get the latest and greatest Blah_Prog
available. you're going to rebuild your kernel anyway, so
what does it matter what kernel comes with it to begin with?
the differences in these versions are simply in the software,
the conventions, etc, etc, will always be the same. update
your software and libs to what you want and care not what
"version" of redhat you have.
think of a distro as a launch pad.
unless of course you are too lazy to compile things for yourself,
in which case i think i have spare win98 disc around here
somewhere.
