justin, can you try to wrap your lines a little earlier?

why not use aterm? it's what i use with afterstep and it is very cool to watch
it during startup as it turns the color of the root window for about 5 seconds
as afterstep finishes loading (afterstep sets my background), and then seam-
lessly notices that the background has changed and proceeds to "camouflage"
itself.
i use aterm 0.3.2 with AS 1.6.10 (havent upgraded to aterm .3.3 which was
released a couple of days ago cos 3.2 is perfect for me)
alternatively, if you really want an answer to your question ( =) )
try
(sleep 3 ; eterm) &
should work in bash or tcsh
i havent tested this inside of the autoexec, but i betsomething like
Exec "I" /bin/bash -c "(sleep 3 ; eterm) &
might work.
