this is not exactly precise. if you read the man page on ps

       %CPU shows the cputime/realtime percentage. It will not
       add up to 100% unless you are lucky. It is time used
       divided by the time the process has been running.

if x11amp has been up for 10 days without doing anything, then you play
mp3's for an hour. the %CPU is still going to be really low..why don't you
try 'vmstat 2'

> USER PID %CPU %MEM SIZE RSS TTY STAT START TIME COMMAND
> taral     8793 97.1  4.7 17924  4560  ?  R N Feb 28 3537:01 ./mprime
> taral    17769  0.0  4.0  5452  3876  ?  S <  19:52   0:02 x11amp
> taral    17771  0.0  4.0  5452  3876  ?  S <  19:52   0:00 x11amp
> taral    18716  0.1  4.0  5452  3876  ?  S <  23:36   0:00 x11amp
> taral    18717  0.0  4.0  5452  3876  ?  S <  23:36   0:00 x11amp

Momma always said: life is like
      `.           a box of 95;
    .__ o __.      you never know
    |__/|\__|      if you're gonna
    /\ < > /\      crash ...
