OK, I have the Samba deamon up and running (alright, so that
happened automatically when I installed RH 5.2 -- didn't take a
genius). Now I'm trying to use it.
When I searched for help on Samba, I came across a command called
smbmount
However, my system does not recognize it and it isn't in the
directory with smbclient, and the others. I would really
like to mount my Windows directories from my Linux box.
How is this done ? I've seen something in the doc about smbfs
Do I use some variation of the mount command ?
In the smb.conf file I setup my workgroup to match the windows one.
>From the windows machine, I can see the Linux/Samba machine, but
when I click on it, it ask for a password. I created a windows
login to match my account on the Linux box, but it still won't
take the linux password.... After reading the Samba FAQ from
http://samba.anu.edu.au/samba/docs/FAQ/#29 it looks like my
problem is that Windows 98 is encripting the password. It says
to look at docs/ENCRYPTION.txt in the Samba distribution. I'll
check it out when I get home, but is it staight forward, or
would it be easier to get Windows to sent a non-encripted password.
