problems with 2.2.4-1 kernel

I've compile the 2.2.4-1 kernel and made the image and all that.  now im
trying to load it and here's what it says:

LILO boot:  2.2.4-1
Loading  2.2.4-1
No Setup Signature Found...

anyone know what the problem could be?  i have no idea.  this is my first time
compiling a linux kernel (or any kernel for that matter)  thanks.
