Well, everyone has $0.02 so I'll put mine in too...
Don't wanna sound like a bumbling idiot, but I disagree with all the M$
bashing I've seen here lately. $5 is a good deal for that decent
software. How many schools do you see doing this?
In the end it'll benefit most of the UT community. Poorer students (like
me) can actually afford this $5/CD thing, rather than $100+ for MS
DevStudio and $250+ for Office97. And, the whole point of it was
standardization. (but you don't have to participate in it, simply don't
buy it and install it.) It'll help other students excel at Excel (no pun
intended) and Word. You know, that's actually something to put on your
resume... so many companies out there use Word and other Microsoft
software.
And Josef was correct; it's over the next 4 years for the *entire* UT
system.
Although Microsoft is a total pisser in some areas, their educational
deals and donations program is one of the best. I'm kinda tired of
seeing all the MS bashing and what-not, building a Gates' statue, etc.
What the heck is that? I think all of us should give MS some credit
sometimes and eliminate that "Winblows sucks" attitude.. (let's see one of
you guys make an OS, eh?)
Yes, I actually admire people like Gates and Dell. Gotta have some brains
to be where they are today.
I'll probably get a lot of flack for this but I'm just a little
disappointed at how some people don't see the big picture. So sue me. :P
