I hate to tell you this, but in almost every school you can get an .edu
discount for almost every OS. Heck, Sun is only charging shipping to get
a copy of solaris 2.6 for sparc or x86. Pretty damn good deal for a hell
of a lot more stable OS.
Oh, by the way -- did I mention that linux always has and will be FREE?
And get this -- it's not limited ... you can use it for commercial applications
*and* you get free support. Amazing the deals that are out there these days.

And there are tons of companies that use Solaris as the backbone to their
server environment ... and tons that would be impressed by the '4 years
extensive development in c/c++/java/perl on LINUX' ... So it all depends
on how high you want to strive.

Well, I hate to tell you ... but windows DOES suck. That's why we use linux.
We don't like an operating system that crashes in the middle of debugging
a program we're working on/in.
As so far as making an OS? .... We do. Ever hear of the open source program
that linux participates in? Hrm .. I guess not.

I can respect that .. although if you consider feeding the masses some 1/2 bit
software that is flakey and then raping them every time they have to 'upgrade'
brains ... well, yeah. Organized Crime has been doing the same thing for years.
I bet you don't respect them that much.

Flack or not, the 'big picture' has nothing to do with it.
Yes, microsoft products are out there.
Yes, microsoft benefits more than you do by getting their software out there.
The more drones they have coming out of college thinking only microsoft,
the more money they can rape from the fortune xxx companies that the grads
will go work for.
And you know what? When I go for a job and they ask me if I know NT or 95 ..
I say no. I say I don't like windows, and refuse to work with an insufficient
operating system. If they don't like it .. I go somewhere else. You CAN
make a choice in this world ... you just have to realize that MS products
are being shoved down your throat. If you don't mind that, so be it. But
some of us realize that we DO have a choice. And we don't wanna put up with
the MS propaganda bullshit.
