more ppp weirdness

Once I have my ppp connection working, if I try to open any other
programs in X, even an xterm window, here's
what I get:

Xlin:connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib:Client is not authorized to connect to Server
Application initialization failed: couldn't connect to display ":0.0"

Why?
