So I'm installin Linux on my laptop. I finally got LILO and the kernel
installed correctly. I've got part of the filesystem in place, most of
the critical libraries and executables and all of etc, etc/rc.d, and
etc/pam.d. I can get into my system in single user mode. But whenever
I boot normally, I am prompted for a username, but everytime I enter
ANYTHING, it just flashes and asks for a username again. No password
prompt even. Then I get a few error messages about respawning too fast,
one for each runlevel it seems, and then the system is frozen and I have
to reboot. Does anyone know what I'm missing, or at least where to go
to find out what I'm doing? TIA.
