Basic run-down of the BeOS
POSIX compliant, the command prompt you get is actually a bash prompt :)
nice, but missing all of our favorite utils.. or most..
the OS doesn't have a CLI mode, it's all graphical, though of course you
can use the terminals..
hardare support - very little, it basically works on machines that they
develop it on and a select few others ;p there is I think 1-2 NICs
supported, 1-2 SCSI cards, under 10 video cards, maybe 15, only
soundblaster sound, etc..
software support.. very little, and it'll stay that way because there
isn't any demand, unlike linux which seems to be the most popular
alternative to windows for software development these days..
it's a nice OS, a bitch to get set up in some cases, and not all that
useful once you do so, but if you do a lot of video / audio editing it's
nice.. yuo can run multiple full-motion video windows at the same time..
that's a big deal :)
