at what level:
transport
delivery
user
sendmail and qmail are MTA (transport agents), qmail in addition has a MDA
piece (delivery agent).
fetchmail is really a MUA (though it goes about it's business much
differently from other MUAs)
you didn't mention other delivery agents such as procmail
what's best is very subjective, might as well ask what's the best text
editor to use

particular exercise. If so, by all means learn qmail.
