Command Line Screenshots

I've written a command-line fractal generator with Mesa (openGL), and
I need to create graphics of each fractal generated (nearly 1000).  Is
anyone familiar with a way to grab a window from the command line or
an area of the screen (given the coordinates) and save it some sort of
graphical format?  Like xv, ee, gqview, etc?
