Do you mean multiple X servers? Multiple x clients (e.g. more than one
xterm) is the norm.
To start a second X server on virtual terminal 8 with 24 bit planes of
color:
startx -- :1 -bpp 24 vt8
To start a third X server on vt9 with 8 bits of color
startx -- :2 -bpp 24 vt9
To start, say, xeyes on the first x server but have it display on the
third:
xeyes -display :2
