this is kind of old news, but while re-reading the Sept. '99 edition of
the Linux Journal i found an article about the UT Astronomy Dept. that
i originally didn't notice was about UT.
it's a short writeup about a linux cluster the dept. setup to do complex
modeling and calculations for their research of star interiors.
their cluster features 32 nodes each loaded with pentiumII 300s with
32M of ram.  the article discusses how they used various open source
packages to run their diskless linux cluster.
it's kind of annoying that i had to find out about something like this
by reading a magazine when it's right down the street.
i wonder if they'd be interested in giving us a quick tour and discuss
some of the issues of the cluster.  i'd be interested, the UT AST dept.
& faculty are second to none.
