After shuddering upon RTFM'ing the rrd pages, I took the advice of a fellow
linux newbie and just added my ethernet card and loaded dhcpcd, and
everything seems to be working AOK. No rrd, no scripts, nuthin.
This seems too easy. Is there some serious security hole or performance
hit I'm taking by going this route?

"A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher
a hog, construct a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance
accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give
orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch
manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, and die
gallantly. Specialization is for insects."
