Well, the best cd writer program I'm aware of for Linux is cdrecord.
You can get it at

   ftp://ftp.fokus.gmd.de/pub/unix/cdrecord

Grab a copy, see what it supports.

There is also a Linux CD-Writing HOWTO, available at

among other places.

As for testimonials, I have a Matsushita CW-7502 writer.  It works
well with cdrecord, and cdrecord works well with it.

Linux is a much better platform for burning cds than Windows.  You can
do much more on the box while writing without risking a buffer
underrun than you could ever do with Windows.
