As per glide.xxedgexx.com, XFree86 3.3.5 _does_ support 2D with the Voodoo3 line, but it's buggy (hence the crashing when moving windows). So when I checked the fine print on www.3dfxgamers.com I noticed that the build of the XFree86-SVGA-3.3.5 RPM was different than the one's RedHat distributes.
