I haven't gone to a shop to repair my computer yet, but from what
little I've heard unetcc (www.unetcc.com) and Tinkertronics are good
shops. There may be more. :^D
Jacob's advice is good. Also try cycling through your (S | D)imms
if you reach the strip down to minimum stage. Listen for any beeps. The
beeps are an audio status pattern, that varies by BIOS company (IIRC the
POSt beeps can be found on the respective companies' web
sites). E.g. repeated short single beeps would be a ram problem, repeated
double beeps would be a video problem, etc. etc. Depending on how much
money you have, if none of the strip / test / add / repeat business works,
you might consider trying to replace components incrementally (try a new
proc first maybe, then MB, etc. If the drives spin up then at least the
MB is passing power to them.) This might not be cheap but then weigh it
against the cost of labor in repair. Might go either way...
Good luck, man, I know how much it sucks to be sans computer.
