I'm encountering a minor issue with my new box. I basically built it
and dropped in the old HD, copying the filesystems over to a new
one. So, I'm wondering if I need to reconfigure something?

I have a parallel port, but it stopped working. lprng doesn't work;
neither does my Rio upload/download utility. I get the following in
dmesg:

parport0: PC-style at 0x378 [SPP,PS2]
parport0: no IEEE-1284 device present.
lp0: using parport0 (polling).

So, it seems that my port is being detected. I have a /proc/parport/0,
but /proc/parport/0/irq simply reports 'none'. I've never seen the
(SPP,PS2) after the interrupt, I don't think. Am I dealing with
something strange, or is there a workaround?

I'm also considering toying with the Hurd, since it seems to have a
few interesting features. Does anyone have any experience with it at
all? I think I remember seeing an ALSA port listed in the Debian
package list; does this work well?
