Geocities, tripod and their ilk. I can also think of places like
netscape, realnetworks and netradio that do this. I even remember
comedy central doing this at one time.
While the porn industry may be the worst offenders of this technique,
I've seen plenty of legitimate sites using it lately. For
advertisers, it's the banner ad that won't go away as easily. Like
changing the channel on your TV during the commercials, but the
commercial is still there.
Besides, even if somebody is looking at porn, what do we care as long
as the question is linux related. (insert image of penguin porn here)
The best thing is to turn off your javascript until you really need
it, then turn it off again as soon as your done.
