A while back I posted to this list asking if anyone was familiar with (or
better) using a decent X-enabled email client.
I've been testing execmail (http://www.messagingdirect.com/), which is a
commercial product. Although only guaranteed to work with RedHat 5/6,
it's working reasonably well on a Slackware-based system. They have a
fully functional demo version which can be downloaded and used for 90
days.
I still have a number of complaints, though, over and above the fact that
it's commercial code that will most likely break every time libc or libXt
gets upgraded. For one thing, it's tcl-based, hence rather slow, and the
interface is a little weird. For example, it treats all the directories
in your home directory as mail folders, allowing you to open text files as
messages from yourself. Also, the interface design is tcl-clunky, to say
the least. Nevertheless, it works, and would be an option for
point-and-click end-users.
Again, is can anyone recommend an alternative? For example, is anyone
seriously using the email client which ships with Netscape Communicator?
How well does it work in a real world situation where one has several
thousand messages scattered about in various mail folders?
