Last night I modified (using a Kfilemanager window whose owner was root) the permissions on a directory, /home/mp3 , while having a Kfilemanager window open which belonged to my user account; and then subsequently I used the user Kfilemanager window to alter the name of a link within that directory. I believe these actions have caused a severe problem now with my KDEnvironment: whenever I startx and then try to view my home directory with any account, the kfm window says "working..." and freezes up (little or no hard drive activity) and then I can't start any programs or even sometimes logout of X. This is extremely frustrating; and additionally, in console I can read the files in /home/mp3, but in X/KDE the kfm cannot access /home/mp3 or /home/* without hanging the system as described. Additionally, when I hit a link to a file within /home/chris, the text editor says that said file does not exist. This is seemingly mysterious to me, as the console can display the file fine. Any help is welcome! Chris Johnson I believe some sort of error with file locking may be involved, but I need this to be fixed quickly so I can resume normal operation for myself and other users. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Send administrative requests to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
