i have southwestern bell dsl, with 5 static ip address allocated to me. i
have a cobalt router which provides internet access from the dsl modem to
all the computers in my office. i want to run a web server now, and keep it
off the network and separate from the cobalt router. ive only been using 1
ip address till now, and so now i want to use another for the server.
so ive bought a hub, and placed it in between the modem and the router, and
the router is working fine. but when i try to connect the server to the hub,
the server doesnt seem to pick up an address. the same happens when
connected directly to the modem. the server is configured with turbolinux 6
and runs the DHCP client at boot time. i thought it should just pick up an
address and start working, but i guess i was wrong. i didnt set up the
cobalt myself, so im not sure how it is configured. is there some kind of
special configuration that the cobalt is using that i need to be using for
the server as well? or is there some kind of special software i need? i
searched swbell's pages endlessly and found nothing, and ive heard horror
stories about their tech support, so i figured someone might know something,
and id try here first.
thanks,
dennis
