I personally like _A Guide to LaTeX 2e_ by Helmut Kopka
and Patrick Daly. I've never needed to look up anything
that wasn't in the reference section in the back, and they
start right from the beginning with very simple documents.
I've written tons of stuff in LaTeX, and I've
no complaints about this book. But of course you could
probably check out a few books from the PMA library and
see which you like best.
