First problem:
How can I let user "ray" print email messages? Orginally, I set up my
RH5.2 with everything under root. Later, I created users, and moved my
mail files so the from: address would read something other than root.
Now procmail files my incoming mails under directories in
/home/ray/Mail/ and anything not expected goes into
/var/spool/mail/root. I read them with Mutt, but only root is allowed
to print. (When I go into ray's stuff as root, I have to wind my way
down the directory structure, and if I save any files, they then have
root's permissions, and I have to go change them.
Should I go into /usr/sbin/*lpd and change permissions from
-rwxr--r-- to something else. (it is currently owned by root in group
root.) Should I likewise change *lpr, *lpc, *lprn? (others?) Why
can't the user print?
Second problem: I'm using an Epson LX-800 and/or Canon BJ200 to print
from withing Mutt, or from mc or emacs. (lpr filename) Usually, about
3/4 of the way down the second page, the epson drops about four lines.
The canon BJ200 drops lines while it is grabbing the second sheet of
paper. These are both parallel printers. If they were serial printers,
I imagine I could go to /etc/printcap and change something to do with
baudrate (like br#9600), but parallel printers do not have any baud rate
entries.
I hardly ever load X, but when I run StarOffice and print
spreadsheets, both printers work just fine, as they do under
Windows.
Any Ideas?
