We don't.  Please remember ... HTML describes document structure,
not document appearance.

There may be a solution for what you are trying to do, but it probably
doesn't involve a TAB.  If you are trying to organize data in the
presentation, then you may want to use a <TABLE>.

If you are trying to affect placement, you may want to use a style
sheet.  This might be as easy as:

    <P STYLE="text-indent: 3em">The quick brown fox jumped over the
    lazy dog.  Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of
    their party.</P>

That example would be rendered as:

    <----> 3em
          The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy
    dog.  Now is the time for all good men to come
    to the aid of their party.

(An "em" is the width of a capital M in the current typeface.)

Again, it all depends on what you are trying to do.
