Since I built my new box last October, I've never really mucked around
with the parallel port much. My printer worked fine, and that was
cool.
I recently tried to hook my Diamond Rio PMP300 to the new box, though,
and the Rio utility refuses to work, though it worked nicely on my
first box. It also seems that any programs which attempt to access the
parallel port directly (I.e. setuid root and accessing the hardware
and not /dev/lp*) break -- my Rio utility is one such program.
Here is what dmesg says about my port:
parport0: PC-style at 0x378 [SPP,PS2,EPP]
parport_probe: failed
parport0: no IEEE-1284 device present.
lp0: using parport0 (polling).
Now, what should I do to get the rio utility to access the port? Is
there a quicker method than rebooting, going into the BIOS, changing
the setting for LP1, testing and repeating-until-it-works? :) I don't
recall seeing the SPP,PS2,EPP on my old box (bought in '97.) Is this a
feature of new mobos, and if so, what's the point? :)
Thanks.
