http://freshmeat.net/projects/apcupsd has lots of info, and I'm using the
"NT or WinXX" cable just fine on my BackUPS Pro. I Don't have a SmartUPS
to get the rest of the info from -- so I don't get the really nifty info
like % battery life, I can see the serial numbers reported by the UPS, and
the status, and I get the events. I have the cable 940-0095B that came
with my UPS.
Whatever prioritized means, the acpupsd folks, and perhaps the apcd
project and perhaps the genpower project have figured out a way around it.
Sounds like the stupid programs (aka PowerChute) are the ones that need
special cables. Open Source baby!
