Hello everyone,
It has been a while since I made a SIGLinux meeting so I figured why not
help out at the Install Fest. :)
I have a couple of hubs (both 10 megabit, one 8 port, one 12 port) that I
can bring along with some cables. Do you think they'll be needed given
that we already have a person (or two?) bringing hubs (100 megabit?)?
I could if needed bring a PS2 keyboard or two (maybe even an AT one) for
people to use while installing.
And the number of hubs in a network thing is also known as the 5-4-3
rule. It goes something like this....quoting the SMC EtherEZ hob docs.
Between any two PCs or other stations on the network, there may be:
- up to 5 cable segments in series,
- up to 4 repeaters (hubs),
- up to 3 populated cable segments - segments attached to two or more
stations (coax networks only).
I have had one person tell me that the 5-4-3 rule as commonly stated isn't
perfectly true, but that it is close enough and easier to remember than
whatever is the actual detailed rule. And as you can see, I've only
vaguely learned the rule, as I had to look it up.
