I've been going through all the e-mails concerning the bashing of
Unix/Linux. I see this too often among the "elite", and by no means I
am pleased. In fact, it is this treatment that gives us a bad name.

A couple cases in point:

1. The argument that the members of Unix/Linux are MIS majors trying to
add to their resume the words "Linux" and "Unix" is rather shoddy. MIS
majors are people. They have brains, they have computer skills. Those
are the only two things needed for becoming proficient in Linux. I
personally do not think that people would start a "organization" for the
name value.

2. Use of HTML e-mails, AOL addresses, and MSN: Yes, I know that in
this group, HTML e-mail is not in the best of taste. You should not
berate a whole group of people, who merely do things in a different way
than we normally do. Linux is flexible enough to accomodate such
people. We shouldn't restrict them.

Unix/Linux is a partner, not a rival. From all the posts I've been
seeing, you guys are seeing them as a rival (and treating them as a
rival to be eliminated). As far as I know, we should be apologizing to
them, not them apologizing to us.
