cdrecord speed issue

I just got new Plextor 10/12/32a cdrw drive, 
And i set up cdrecord, toburd cds on that,
The thing is, that for some reason it doesnt let me burn them on speeds
higher than 4.
When i specify it as a parameter, lets say speed=10 for rw, it just
ignores it.
Is there any way to get it to write faster?
