i used to run linuxppc (i think that was the name of the distro--it wasn't
anything i'd heard of before, or since such as yellowdog) on my lombard
(300mhz, bronze keys) powerbook when i was still graced with its presence.
it was a bit of a PITA to install dualboot at the time tho i understand
that's been cleared up since.

it was remarkably well-supported hardwarewise--in fact i think everything
about it worked, including bizarre stuff like the IR ports and drive
hotswapping.

it was much more responsive than macos9 (latest at the time), to the
extent that i rarely booted into macos.

i can highly recommend linux on a mac laptop if the devteam is still
as active as they were. but i sadly cannot show you it.
