OK This is basically a call to all interested Linux and Gimp hackers. I
think I have a good computer idea. Bear with me. I just came up with this thing
while drawing, so I am a bit excited (you know that feeling when you come up
with something and get all tingly and unstable).
When a person is drawing, he has this flow going on with the hand and the
eye. If you have ever drawn from life, you know what I mean. However, with
color, a person has to descretely switch between two or more colors. Lets talk
only two colors first (e.g. black and red). Instead of keeping the flow and
feeling going, an artist has to switch colors discretely. My idea is to use
computers to change colors continuously. Here is how it works. One hand
operates the stylus on the tablet, and the foot operates a pedal that
determines color. Pressing the pedal harder gives a more red color. Letting it
go a bit gives it a more black color. Now, one person can simultaneously
control pencil speed, pressure, and color, PRESERVING GESTURE BETTER (I am
hypothesizing this is a good thing). Of course adding another pedal can give
more control, etc. Use your imagination. Also, a person would have to train his
eye-foot coordination. This would be more like playing organ, as compared to
piano (the organ uses pedals much more extensively).
Please post feedback to this idea, and to its possible implementation. I
am thinking a USB driver using those race-car pedal controls for gaming, and a
GIMP modification to handle this new input. I can kind of program, but if
someone is looking for a project....

Thank you
Alex
