Guys

again sorry for using this forum for general discussion, but a word
about acquiring a location
for any type of get together, my wife works with the Red Lion Hotel and
may be able to have
us use their ballroom at a substantial discount as long as this will be
a "non profit" event.
Let me know!!!! I can help,!!! romp-a-omp-a-chomp-
romp-a-omp-a-chomp!!!!!

Hi, I suppose an introduction is in order before I get to the real
subject. I am Jim Westbrook, the current President of Austin Linux
Group. Now, on to the topic for discussion.

There will not be an ITEC show in Austin this year. There is a new
outfit setting up a similar show for late this year, but the organizer
has indicated that booth space will cost $995.00 for a 10x10. I don't
know about any other group's budget status, but that figure is far
beyond the scope of ALG's coffers.

Perhaps it is time for the Austin Unix/Linux groups to collectively
organize a one-day "infofest" for lack of another term. It could give
each group a chance to "toot their own horn" and to publicly display
how
both OSS and its users can work together effectively.

This is only in the discussion stage, so here's some items that we'd
need to get it off the ground.

A location -- perhaps one of the hotel ballroom/meeting space sites

A date and time -- I have received a suggestion from an ALG member
that
just before the start of the school year might be a good time.

A theme -- interoperability?

Presentations -- open to suggestions

Network -- both wired and wireless

Volunteers -- LOTS of them :)

OK, folks, what do you think? Can we do this in such a short
timeframe?

Please use the new [EMAIL PROTECTED] for posts on this
matter. It's a new list, but it seems like the perfect place for this
kind of discussion.
