All-

Even though the Debian install did not work out well for me, I had fun. Very good idea. Yeah, more install helpers are needed, hopefully I'll learn enough to be of some help next year. I got home and said screw Debian and downloaded Fedora and am in the process of installing it now. It is just the type of install I was looking for, more Windows like :o

Thanks to everyone who came out today to help. We got many installs
done, and others left with systems working better than before.

This thread is to discuss how it went, and to make suggestions for
what to do better. If you got linux installed today, this is the time
for you to help us do better! I'll send out another message later
with ideas of where to go to for help (for new users).

1) We had plenty of CDs there at the beginning. This saved us a lot of time. Thanks to everyone who helped out here.

1.5) We needed more "install geeks" to help out. I'll work on this
next time.

2) We needed to know how to do netinstalls for Mandrake and Fedora--
what mirrors are best and how to boot. (see #4)

3) There has got to be a better way to configure X in Debian-- we'll
have to search for it.

4) We should have sheets for all of the different distros telling how
to do the basic installation, so that we don't stall on the easy parts.

If you have any more thoughts or ideas-- email the list telling us what you think. The good thing is that these aren't anything that some more planning won't fix for next time.

Once again, thanks to all, and next time will be better. We'll meet
Wednesday (details to follow).
