Zain, I have a working SuSE 9.2 Pro, which I'd like to load on my own
computer. I believe this is the latest available; it requires you load
five CDs if you want all that exists. You'd be welcome to come by my
place 5605 Woodrow Av Apt 9 and load here if you'd like. But, I will be
leaving about the 18th. Let me know! Kenneth Koym Tel 512.215.4798

Hello,
My Dell PE system hangs at first boot after a fresh install of SUSE

this is not a terrifically useful answer but the kernel in suse 8.0
enterprise is ancient and you'd do yourself a favor to try something
more recent.
we've had similar problems (hangs before kernel finishes booting, although
this sounds like it might actually be post-kernel and into init(8) land)
due to a lot of different factors, nearly all of which was fixed by
twiddling kernel options or trying a newer kernel that incorporated some
accidentally relevant patch. unless you have a current maintenance
agreement with suse i doubt that you can even get patches/updates for this
release anymore (i may be wrong; i haven't searched exhaustively. but
the naive approach of ftp'ing to their updates area and a cursory webpage
exam point in that direction).
basically i'm suggesting that an upgrade is a more useful time-sink than
trying to fix this, though i have no doubt it is possible without that,
if you are made of infinite time and willpower.
