For a number of devices, sigrok makes use of firmware files extracted from vendor software. If a device driver has been tested with firmware extracted from a particular software version, it would be useful to archive this software somewhere, since vendor updates can break things. Of course some vendor's software agreements disallow re-distribution, but often this is not the case.

What are the rules within the sigrok project for archiving and linking to vendor software?

I understand that archiving vendor software on the wiki site itself is not allowed. How about archiving on an external site (e.g. github) and linking to it from the wiki?

No feedback on this, so in the next couple of weeks I intend to place links to archived vendor software (possibly hosted on github) within the sigrok wiki.

If there are any objections please speak up.

Kevin
