Sydneysiders can now see up to date maps showing all traffic conditions and hazards in NSW. Last Monday, Manly resident Sarah Evason spent two and a half hours commuting to Homebush (a trip that typically takes 45 minutes) due to a major accident on the Sydney Harbor Bridge. This started her husband, Geoff, thinking about how hard it is to find traffic information in Sydney. This weekend, Geoff together with 4 friends, Kim Chen, Geoff McQueen, Brian Menzies and Marcus Schappi decided to do something about it. They realized that if they could plot current accidents and road hazards visually on a map it could useful for folks planning trips around Sydney. The team imagined getting ready to knock off work and quickly checking out the www.TrafficHawk.com.au<http://www.traffichawk.com.au/>site to see if there are any accidents or roadworks the might affect their drive home. The idea for a traffic website was hatched at a brainstorming session at 8pm on Friday night. Then the team hit the keyboards. By 2pm Saturday the first version of a site with RTA data for the Sydney area was live. The site was officially launched to the world at 10pm Saturday and by Sunday afternoon already 150 people around Australia had stopped by to check out the site. The site was completely bootstrapped by the 5 team members and is funded by donations and advertising too keep it free for everyone. "I love TrafficHawk.com.au <http://traffichawk.com.au/>. In addition to being a great tool for commuters this could really make a positive impact on reducing carbon emissions caused by cars idling in traffic jams in the Sydney metro area" said Richard Hayes CEO Carbon Free Solutions Ltd. "This is so easy to use. I just went to the site and it was all there in front of me. I didn't have to say where I was or where I wanted to go it was all right there. The inaugural Startup Camp Sydney was held this weekend from 5th – 7th of September at the Geekdom offices in The Rocks, Sydney. Startup Camp, the brainchild of Bart Jellema a Northern Beaches based entrepreneur and the Director of All Things Cool and Wonderful at Tjoos.com, is a weekend long event where 24 strangers came together for 48 hours with the objective of creating and launching 3 innovative business ideas.
