Hi everyone,
In Sydney, this Friday's drinks will be a big one.

We have several special guests. There will be Kathy Drasky & Viki
Forrest[1], the CEO of ANZA (and yet another Aussie in Silicon Valley), who
will be shouting the first round. A little more about ANZA below.

We've also going to have Paull Young[2], who is a Aussie in New York, and
one of those young guys that's shaking things up in his chosen industry of
PR and communications.

And the non-committal Carlee Potter[3] might make it as well. She locks
herself up in a den in Newscastle trying to pioneer new media, but with a
bit of encouragement, we might all get to see her :) Apart from running
SNOBS, she also is now a host on the Lucky Startups show, so another person
to contact to get global exposure of your business. [4]

ABOUT THE OFFICIAL FRIDAY SILICON BEACH DRINKS
They occur weekly in Sydney at the Grace Hotel [5] (second level, bar 77 [6]
- runs from 5-8pm). After six months of persistence its now taken a life of
its own, and we have a core crowd that comes every week or two that numbers
10-15. Of course, we have a less frequent crowd that make up another 5-20. I
promise you will have a great chat with someone, and make a valuable contact
(without even trying). It's casual, but we are united with a common passion
about this industry and this whole "information sector" 'thang.

They also occur in Melbourne [7] as recently announced by Pieter. Brisbane,
Adelaide, Perth have yet to get their act together!

ABOUT ANZA
I just had the pleasure of meeting Viki and Kathy just then and we talked
about the US industry, Australia, entrepreneurialism, and a lot more.

One thing I would like to do is build a more formal connection between ANZA
and SIlicon Beach. ANZA has several thousand members, is well established,
and is about Aussies in the tech industry. They are a non-profit seeking to
build Aussie expertise, profile (and ultimately success). If you want to
setup shop in the US, they will connect with the right people to get advice,
help you find places to couch surf, and build your skills and to understand
the local market.

Whilst a lot of their programs can be seen as trying to bring Aussie
entrepreneur's over the the States, I now see it as effectively a skills
transfer program. If we are ever going to build silicon beach, and I really
mean in a globally competitive way, we need to to develop experience and
expertise of those in the community. It might mean spending a few years in
the States learning from the best, and the more veteran's we have, the
stronger our community will be. W

So see you at the drinks! You have a lot of people and things to talk about!
