SF/SV is an awesome place to network/meet.

I would see if there are any conferences there - they can be a great
way to kick start some networking.  Also in SF they have all sorts of
regular "meet-ups" for techies, start up folk, designers etc, you
could probably go to 3 different meet ups a night if you wanted to. I
also wouldn't be afraid of contacting companies direct with the view
to catching up with them.  SF/SV draws people from all over the US/
world interested/open to collaboration so they are quite open.
