Tasmania could never become silicon anything. That's blindingly obvious.
However, for the next few years they will be living in the future before
everyone....

- For the next few years Tasmania will be the home of Australia's most
successful online gamers...latency has a direct relationship to
frags....<shakes fist at the unfairness of it all>
- There could be opportunities for Tasmania to be the test bed for future
business models and technologies. Assuming the fibre to the home delivers a
step change in what is possible on the internet (like the step change from
dialup to broadband did) there could be quite a few tech companies from around
the world wanting to get their stuff into Tasmanian living rooms...is there an
opportunity there for some Tasmanians to start up businesses which pair beta
testers with companies wanting to trial the future?

Mark Burch

Apparently all that's needed for innovation is NBN but not people :)

Something is wrong with the state system in this country if it means that
places like Tasmania have enough revenue left over to give away to overseas
"innovation" centres to entice them aware from more realistic cities like
Sydney or Melbourne. I wonder why they have so much extra revenue?
