Hello Silicon Beachers! My name’s David Fay - I’ve met quite a few of you before (either last year or this year) and am a long time lurker, second-to-first time poster. I’m writing because myself and a buddy of mine Justin Flynn are looking to try and make the Silicon Beach community (and wider Australian start-up community) a bit more of a transparent and outsider-friendly space.
Obviously there’s a lot of Australians out there with exciting, creative, crazy and genuinely game-changing ideas and we want to help them to visualize and look up to the kind of people and projects that are driving Australia’s technology sector forward. More than anything else, we want to try and make the Australian start-up scene less opaque and more like the visceral, energized, fire-breathing creature that it actually is! It’s not all about the outsiders however - that’s just how we have primarily experienced Silicon Beach! Our primary aim is to create a centralised platform for existing start- ups that serves to generate buzz, garner interest from investors, and fulfill more basic marketing needs. We’re a completely mobile production unit - so if you’d like to share your story and demo your product with us at a meet-up, in a cafe, or in your home/office - we’ll be there! We’re also very excitable - and find any project interesting whether you’re an indie mobile developer, a cloud genius or if you’re putting a new spin on e-commerce. Although Justin and I have quite strong media production backgrounds, we want to start out as lean and small as we can, with just a YouTube channel, a Facebook page, Twitter and some very basic video and audio equipment - bear with us though, our resources are soon to get bigger and we’ll be putting some serious thought and hours into the development of startcast.com.au. Ultimately however, the content comes first and we’re raring to get started! When it comes down to it, this is something that can’t happen without the start-up community behind it - so if you’d like to see this happen, like to be featured, or have any suggestions around the idea please let us know! Alternatively, feel free to come and have a chat with us at the Silicon Beach event this Friday - we’ll be the guys with the tiny Flip camera in your face ;) Cheers, David and Justin PS: We’re just about to wrap up on another project of ours: theunofficialmashablepodcast.com if you want to see what we look like! -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Silicon Beach Australia mailing list.
