I would happily see almost all the programs at the federal level (aside from the R&D tax rebate programs) abolished if they'd fix the mess they made out of the tax handling of stock options. I doubt the state level will be much better. Honestly, I think participating in things like this is a terrible habit. It fosters the idea that the thing real entrepreneurs should be doing is 'farming the government'. I see grants going out to academic projects, startups and companies that are simply insane, but obviously fit well into the obsessions of government bureaucrats and committees of industry/academic greybeards. I suppose we can all get on these committees ourselves to ensure that our own misconceptions about startups circa 2012 can become Official Government Policy for the next decade.
