Hey Everyone, I am in the process of applying for the Startup Chile grant ( http://www.startupchile.org/) which will grant you $40,000 USD if you are selected, and you move your globally minded startup to Chile for six month. It looks like an incredible program and opportunity, and I highly recommend keeping an eye on it for the next round (looks like they are running three rounds per year - this round closes tomorrow, which might be a bit hard to get your application completed by then, although I guess it could be done)
Anyway, I have a few questions about some of the criteria they are asking about which I think is standard terminology so you can help me out with. In particular, it wants to know if I have raised any capital, and provides a drop down box to select the range of capital you have raised. *Is it normal to consider large loans from family as 'raising capital'?* In other words, my answer is either, "No, I have not". or "Yes, <$50,000" because my family have helped me out with a large loan (no share agreement in place or anything). Also, there is no room for clarification anywhere on the application - they are very strict on word limits, and there is virtually no space to deviate from the questions they ask. So if I do indicate the "<$50,000" option, I won't be able to explain it - so if it is a personal call as to whether I want to call it 'capital raising' or not, I think it looks better to say I have raised capital doesn't it? Since at least that demonstrates that someone believes in the project.. right? *Second question* that has come up in doing this - the application is open for up to 3 team members. Now I am founding this project solo, but I have hired a company to design and build the website for me. I had never considered the lead engineer on my website part of 'My Team' because he works for another company. Am I wrong about this? Or should I include his Bio and qualifications in the application because he is part of the 'talent' that is working on this project? THANK YOU!
