Without going into whether or not govt people are listening or not, a
more important question is would they actually be prepared to act on
it or not.

Australia doesn't have a very good history for passing legislation
that encourages hi-tech businesses.

Whilst we can blame this or that for these shortcomings, it's interesting
to learn first how these sorts of issues are handled in the United States
and Silicon Valley in particular.

As you'd know, it's done with lobbyists there. The short answer is that
industry supplies the answers to govt for what they require to stay
strong.

I could see that somebody like yourself could be successful in lobbying
to get the changes that you require done.

I'd simply summarise by saying that without lobbying in these areas, it's
unrealistic in any democratic society to expect these things happen
automatically by themselves. Even in the States, things need a lot
of pushing along for anything to happen. It's not really dissimilar here.
