@Victor - I don't think robotic cooking is going to be anywhere near state of the art for decades, unless you're happy with microwaved TV dinners? Optimising the state of your home is definitely on the agenda, but I'd see this robot as the sensing and control parts of the feedback loop, not the plant. Ultimately I'd like to integrate this robotic platform with home automation products to embody the full loop.
@David - I wasn't questioning the usefulness of robotic cars in the slightest, I was wondering whether an off-the-shelf add on to existing cars was the way to go, and suggesting that you talk to some manufacturers about it *before* going too far down the never-ending development road. I'm advocating the same approach that I'm taking with this thread - try to validate the idea before going into the technical detail, even if the technical parts are the fun bit! @Ben - That's a pretty cool concept. I'd certainly thought about projecting goals on the floor/walls, but not so much about "gamification". I was thinking this kind of tracking, quantifying, and showing goals could be helpful for disabled people. For example, autistic people often have greater success with a foreign task if they can be shown someone else doing it first. I also definitely like the idea of not having to open apps and track this stuff manually. I was going to make the comment to Victor above about the video he linked - the guy in that video continually uses the word "autonomously" to mean "by remote human operation" - which is a total abuse of the term. A key benefit of a robot with a proper multi-core computer in it is the ability to do many of the tasks we've discussed in this thread simultaneously and truly autonomously. Tracking and quantification could just happen automatically in the background. @Clifford - lol! Even my wife laughed at that one...
