Hi Darren! I'm was co-organiser and facilitator for Startup Weekend Adelaide so may be able to give you a few pointers:
- Like everyone has said, the main aim of the weekend is learning and networking. Come with that in mind. - The weekend isn't about creating an awesome polished product. It's about how much of a business you can build around your idea (customer validation, market research) and team dynamics (how much your team got done, which could include an MVP or prototype). - If you can show that people want your product/solution, then you're on a good path. The winners of SWADEL found and signed up 50 potential customers on the Saturday. As they say, 'get out of the building'. - Don't get bogged down in specifics. No one cares how good your logo looks. Do things that validate your solution from a customers perspective. Some of this may cost tiny amounts of money (FB/Google ad campaign), other cost nothing (FB group/poll, getting people to signup). - If you're pitching, it's your job to lure the devs/designers/marketers etc to your team. It's also their job to convince you to take them onto your team. - When pitching, don't go into specifics. Pitch at a high level and focus on the problem. E.g. Don't you hate it when X happens and it results in Y. Well my solution is Z, which does this and that. Hope that helps! :) On Thursday, April 26, 2012 1:45:48 PM UTC+10, Darren J Handyside wrote: > > Hi Guys :) > > The Sydney Startup Weekend is happening this Friday, and it will be my > first time to an event like this. > > I am going in as a Non Technical person and my questions to the group is - > > What am I going to expect? > > Will some investment of money need to be spent on the working Days? > > What attractions will lure a developer, designer, and marketer to ideas > presented on pitch night? > > Ok guys, the floor is yours. > > Have a good day. > -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Silicon Beach Australia mailing list.
